Entry Ten: "Advertisements & Color"

I found this advertisement for the competitive reality television show Face Off in an issue of Entertainment Weekly.

I chose this ad for this journal entry because of the use of the color blue. The vivid blue is also contrasted with the yellow eye on the right of the woman's face. Yellow and blue are complimentary colors, and on this advertisement, the two colors pop against the skin tones, the woman's black tank top, and the bright yet subtle backdrop.

There's a sense of duality on this advertisement concept. The color harmony found in the blue and yellow is taking over the woman's face where the flesh tones are being muted.

I believe that the use of blue is paying homage to the highly successful film, Avatar. The fantastical and the imaginative characters in that film are highly recognized in today's culture.
